Relax. Breathe. Focus.

I have recently developed an interest in relaxation, meditation and yoga. I always thought that meditation was reserved for deep thinkers who can see beyond the present, but it turned out that meditation and relaxation are indeed not that difficult. Relaxation requires correct abdominal breathing and a relaxed posture. I will tell you about what worked for me, it’s very simple and I actually do a 10-minute session almost every day.

To put it in simple words, if you want to relax your mind and body, you need to:

  • Make sure you’re wearing comfortable and loose clothes;
  • Sit in a relaxed position with your legs crossed, or lie down on your back;
  • Make sure none of your muscles are tense, check your arms, hands, legs, feet, shoulders, jaw …
  • Breathe in and out from your nostrils (or exhale from your mouth) in such a way that when you inhale your tummy rises and when you exhale you tummy is sucked in;
  •  Focus either on object in the room, it could be a candle, a flower, a bowl or focus on your breathing listening to how you inhale and exhale;
  • If you find that your mind is wandering, bring back your attention to the object or your breathing and think only of that, it takes a few times of practice.
Do that for 10 to 15 minutes and you’ll see how relaxed your mind and body will be. It is a simple form of relaxation but it’s a great start for someone like me who has no experience at all with meditation and relaxation. Sometimes when I am waiting in line at the bank or in the supermarket, I close my eyes, relax my muscles and concentrate on my breathing. I do that for 3 to 5 minutes and it really makes a difference. I find myself less tense and stressed.

I hope you found this post useful, and I really encourage you to relax your body and mind whenever you get a chance to. We live in a fast-paced world that will suck us into its waves of craziness.

Back From Holidays!

Sorry for leaving without any notice, it was very busy before the holidays and I forgot to post a ‘see you soon’ message! But now we are back and although it is going to take me a whole week to re-install myself in my life and not feel disoriented, I am happy to be reconnect with everyone on Twitter and here on Confetti.

I had a great two-week break. I spent it with my family in Italy and Spain and it was beautiful. I’ll leave you with these photos until we meet again some time soon this week. Have a great week!
