This is a simple tomato sauce recipe that you can use with any type of pasta or with gnocchi. Thanks to Marcella Hazan, I think I have finally found what I’m looking for! Finally!! I’ve tried making tomato sauce in all different ways possible, with garlic, with chopped onions, added pepper and herbs, but never really got the result that I wanted. I wanted tomato sauce similar to the one I have in Rome, and Marcella Hazan’s recipe is so far the best I’ve tried.
– 500g tomatoes, fresh or from a can
– 1 small onion, chopped in half
– 2 Tbsp butter
– 1 tsp Salt
Melt the butter in a deep sauce, add the tomatoes and the onion and salt. Bring to boil, simmer and cover and let it slowly cook for 30 minutes or so. Discard the onion before pouring the sauce over pasta or gnocchi. Amazing flavor, just what I’ve been looking for!
